The Quay is home to a host of other community or supporting activities that make use of the great space we have in the Old Electricity Building. We run a regular calendar of events, competitions and quizzes at the centre – check out our events diary for information about the latest visiting speakers, comps or quiz nights. We have a fantastic Treatment Room space which is available for hire to freelance therapists and small group holistic practitioners. The space is home to Quay Kinetics, a specialist physio and sports injury clinic that has a loyal client base from within the climbing wall community and beyond – they are the perfect team to visit for any of your post climbing aches and pains! They are now running Fit Backs and Bumps pre and post natal classes and the space is also being used on Thursday nights for Yoga Classes by our very own Tami!
Since the summer of 2014 we’ve been the HQ of Exeter Riverside’s Parkrun – hosting over 200 runners each Saturday morning as they check in and out for the 5 k run. If you are a community group looking for a space to rent for meetings or a meeting point for activities why not give us a call – situated right in the heart of the Quayside we aim to become a centre for the whole community.
If you are tired of traditional circuits or want to become fitter to climb then why not try our Climb Fit classes run by local fitness instructor, Emma. These classes promise a fresh take on traditional circuits classes and an exhilarating and challenging full body workout that will push you to your limit. Climb Fit focuses on the core components of climbing: flexibility, isometric strength, dynamic strength, balance and power. Each week the circuit is different but it will always combine challenges on the climbing wall with exercises based around medicine balls, free weights, mat work and more. At just £4.00 for a 60 minute class it is great value. There’s no need to book and you don’t have to be a climber to join in. Classes are currently held on a Monday and Thursday morning from 9.30am to 10.30am but check our events diary

Improve your flexibility and take time out to relax with Yoga with Tami. Quay instructor Tami is also a fully qualified yoga teacher and is now running yoga classes out of the treatment room every Thursday evening. Classes last 1 hour and run at 6.15pm and 7.30pm. The treatment room offers a small space perfect for yoga, with room for 8 participants and lots of opportunity for personal coaching during the sessions. If you are pregnant or a new mum why not try out our new Fit Back and Bumps classes. Run by Jen from Quay Kinetics, these physio ante and post natal classes are designed to help prepare your body for childbirth and ensure it stays strong and fit once you have a newborn! The classes are unique because they are delivered by a fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapists so expert guidance and instruction is guaranteed throughout, helping remove the fear women have about exercising during pregnancy and after they have had their baby. The programme spans over 4 distinct sessions, each building on the skills and exercises in the previous one. The focus is on the core muscles of the stomach, back and pelvis, which helps with the following: improved posture during and after pregnancy, reduction in pre and post pregnancy conditions such as stress incontinence and pelvic girdle pain, improved sexual satisfaction! and general health and well being. Quay Kinetics are one of the key Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinics to work from the Treatment Space at the centre. They offer a wide range of services to individuals of all ages including: Physiotherapy, Sports Injury Treatment, Sports Massage, Exercise Rehabilitation and post-operative treatment and rehab. There are no long waiting lists and the team behind Quay Kinetics offer flexible appointments during the day and evening making them an convenient, affordable and high professional service right on our doorstep. Quay Kinetics are experienced dealing with climbing injuries, whether those suffered by climbers new to the sport or more long standing training problems. From sports massage to ease climbing muscles to long term treatment of over-use injuries, the team have a solution for you. The clinic is open to climbers and non climbers and currently operates from the centre each Wednesday and Friday from 2pm to 10pm and on Mondays (times vary week to week). The Quay is home to a bright and spacious Treatment Space which is used by freelance sports massage therapists, osteopaths, yoga teachers and other holistic practitioners. If you have a sports related injury or simply wanting some TLC you can book an appointment with one of the therapists who practice from the space during the week. If you are a therapists or yoga/pilates instructor seeking a space from which to practice then why not contact us? The space is suitable for sports therapy treatments and small group classes and comes equipped with a massage couch. The space is also suitable for small group meetings and has been used in the past for committee meetings, courses and other similar events – we can also provide catering for your meeting from The Workshop Café which is run in-house by our resident chef, Paul. The space can be hired for one-off use or on a regular basis, with commitments ranging from one night a week to multiple days. We aspire to running a community centre not just a climbing facility and hold regular social events for climbers from the centre and beyond.
