DWS Exeter

The Quay is home to Deep Water Solo Exeter – the most unique climbing event in the UK climbing calendar!  2016’s competition hit the Quayside in a blaze of sunshine (with the occasional shower!).  The routes set by the amazing team behind Blokfest (Mike Langley, Gaz Parry, Gav Symonds and joining us for the first time this year, Alex Fry) worked their magic with challenges for all categories from the outset.  Last year’s ‘hanging ball’ and new ‘jump to the bell’ feature in the final returned to guarantee more gymnastics and some speed tests in preparation for Olympic climbing in 4 year’s time.  The standard of climbing was really high and the finals were closely fought – with the competitors tackling the new speed climb and the most unusual dyno feature seen yet!

The festival continued on Bank Holiday Monday when we opened the wall to non competitors to have a go.  Mere mortals climbed our Bank Holiday Routes as well as some of the routes the finalists had tackled the night before.  Well over 100 brave souls had a good time – benefitting from a sunny bank holiday Monday to take the edge of the water temperature!

This year the amazing Chris Brown from Sharp Films produced our event video.

We’re going to be resting the wall in 2017 and returning once more in 2018 bolder and stronger, with a new wall from Entre-Prises UK and some great new shapes for you to throw.
