Have you attended a taster session and got the bug? Or are you seeking a refresher after a few years away from climbing? Maybe you’d like to take up climbing and are keen to get stuck in straight away? Or perhaps you have a child who is itching to come climbing and wants you to ‘belay’ them? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’ then our Induction Course is ideal for you.
Inductions are aimed at those who want to learn how to use the centre independently and start climbing regularly. They take place over two 1 hour sessions during which our instructors will teach you everything you need to know to climb independently in the centre and belay another climber. They are very similar to an induction at a gym/health club. The emphasis is on teaching you how to use all the safety equipment, how to fit your harness, how to tie into the rope correctly, how to belay and the basic techniques you will need to begin top rope climbing on your own. Once you’ve completed an Induction you will be able to:
- Climb in the centre without supervision or prebooking
- Belay younger climbers (aged 5+) who wish to climb in the centre – as long as you are just belaying them then you belay for free and you only need to pay for the child to climb
- Bring along up to 2 guest climbers to climb with you – either novices under your supervision or experienced climbers.
Inductions cost £30 and include two 1 hour instructed sessions (the first covers the basics, the second acts a refresher and technique development session), your annual registration fee at the centre which would normally cost £7.50 per year, a fantastic voucher package from the Quay including discounts on gear hire and improvers sessions plus new climber discounts from our partner, Taunton Leisure, to help towards your first gear purchase. Induction Sessions always run on Thursdays from 7.20pm to 8.20pm and Sundays from 4.40pm to 5.40pm however sessions can be scheduled most days of the week. Check our event diary or call the centre to book your session. All sessions run on a maximum 1:6 instructor to participant ratio.
